John Masefield was a renowned English poet, novelist, and playwright. He was born on 1 June 1878 in Ledbury, Herefordshire, England. After the death of his parents, he spent part of his childhood at sea as a sailor. His experiences on ships inspired many of his famous poems about the sea and adventure.
Masefield became one of the most popular poets of the twentieth century. His well-known works include Sea-Fever, The Everlasting Mercy, The Midnight Folk, and The Box of Delights. In 1930, he was appointed Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom, a position he held until his death.
John Masefield died on 12 May 1967. He is remembered for his vivid descriptions of nature, the sea, and human life, and remains an important figure in English literature.
